What is a bedside cot?

These cots have one side that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily in the nighttime to comfort them and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c section. Many are also mobile or foldable, which means you can take them on trips and use them as a sleeping option for babies who aren't yet ready to move into a cot that is full size.

If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot or a toddler bed when the time comes. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be transformed into an infant bed. Anna found the CoZee to provide a safe, comfortable place to sleep for her infant. She liked that it didn't move like other models, which meant she wasn't woken up in the night trying to soothe her baby during feedings. She also appreciated that the side of the chair lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to lift the child for nighttime feedings.

The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a stylish option for any bedroom. It's more of an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs we've tried, which appear rather utilitarian. It is also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case that allows you to take it on holiday or when you are moving home. The only extras you need to buy are a waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. There are step-by-step directions and pictures to help you put it together as you open the box, making it a one-person job if needed.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to make parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It adjusts up and down and moves through three slide positions to fit beside the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room so that the baby is always within arm's reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to circulate through and allows you to glance at your baby. You can also put away extra pajamas or supplies in the large basket beneath.

The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move from room to space, and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is perfect for storing extra bedding or nappies.

This is a great choice for parents who wish to co-sleep, but don't wish to share their bed. Or if one of the parents has mobility issues such as back pain or arthritis. Our mom testers are thrilled with the fact that they can easily access their baby in the Iora, and that it has an adjustable reflux incline that can help alleviate gas.

Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys and pillows. They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move, you can choose another alternative.
